Saxis Through the Pines

Looking North through the pines from the sandy field.  Many years ago, before the grasses were able to grow, the residents of Saxis used this field for baseball games. Over the years organic matter accumulated and the tall grasses began to grow.  Today the soil is rich enough to support  pine trees which are popping up all over the field.  The field is the highest spot on the island estimated to be 10 feet above sea level.
